Herman Saddle
Backcountry ski tour in West Slopes North
Herman Saddle, located in the renowned Baker Backcountry, offers a blend of enjoyable skiing terrain and breathtaking natural beauty. The journey up Herman Saddle involves a relatively sheltered yet somewhat exposed skin track. Visits in favorable weather conditions, especially during early morning hours when the sun warms the air, yield the best experiences. From the saddle, skiers get to feast their eyes on the awe-inspiring sight of Mt. Baker. The first run from Herman Saddle towards Iceberg Lake offers smooth, consolidated powder when steering clear of steeper southern aspects. Another enjoyable run can be found by skiing down towards Table Mountain. The traverse to Mazama Bowl, a gentle 30-35 degree slope, also offers great skiing, especially on north-facing powder. The trip concludes with an enchanting descent towards the valley floor, presenting skiers with stunning views of Mount Shuksan.
